Description

Discover the "Deep South" as the Dominicans call it. The southwest of the Dominican Republic is geographically disconnected from the main tourist destinations in the country and this is what makes it so special. The landscapes in the middle of nature and the largest biodiversity reserve in the country give this region the privilege of being one of the preferred places for ecotourism because it can be found both dry forest and tropical rainforest. This is a tourist circuit for those who want to be away from civilization and see the Dominican Republic totally from another point of view.

Once you leave Santo Domingo you will arrive after approximately 60 minutes at the town of Baní. Here you will make your first stop to taste typical fruits of the country. Before continuing the route, they will make a detour to visit the "Dunas de Baní". The huge sand dunes rise like a true desert. Dare to climb to the top of the dunes and you will find a spectacular landscape. Here you will also have the opportunity to briefly visit the Baní salt flats. Huge esplanades covered in sea salt are processed for export. Following the route to your destination, you will pass through Azua and arrive successively at Barahona. The largest city in the southwest, which bears the same name as the province and is known as "La Perla del Sur". Day 3
Lake Enriquillo and its crocodiles

Lake Enriquillo and its crocodiles

Today we will pick you up very early. If the hotel cannot provide breakfast on time, we will eat on the way. The reason is that we must be at the lake as soon as possible to increase the chances of seeing crocodiles in their natural habitat before it gets too hot and they disappear into the deep water. On the way to the lake, you will pass many typical Dominican villages, as well as a statue of the Taino chief Enriquillo, from whom the lake gets its name. Lake Enriquillo is one of the most enchanting areas of the country and is almost 40 meters below sea level. The area is hot and dry, although springs and small rivers make it fertile in some places. Some ancient Taino settlements have been discovered in the desert environment around the embedded salt lake. The boat trip on the lake first takes you to a section of shore from where the chances of seeing the living crocodiles are particularly good. The national park is a paradise for American black-billed crocodiles and rhinoceros iguanas. On the way back we will pass through Neiba, a place appreciated by the Spanish during the struggle for independence. This community bases its economy on agriculture and is the area with the highest grape production in the country. Here you will visit "Las Marías", the spa most visited by the locals in the area, where you will have the opportunity to eat something (costs not included) and refresh yourself in its crystal clear waters. Then we will take you back to the hotel.

Day 4
Laguna de Oviedo & Bahía de las Águilas - Nature's Combo
Today's trip will take you in the direction of Oviedo, a small fishing village where time seems to have stopped. Everything is very quiet here. Here you will have the opportunity to visit the Laguna de Oviedo, a fresh and salt water lagoon, which is separated from the sea by a narrow strip of land. A motorboat awaits you here and after a short trip will take you to one of the islands. There you will find dry vegetation and iguanas. Then you will continue by boat in search of flamingos. After exiting the lagoon, the path will take you to the fishing village of Cabo Rojo. After your arrival you will be accommodated in your hotel (Glamping) by the sea. After Check In you will have time to eat something if you wish. Then you must put on your bathing suit, because your next adventure awaits you. You will go by boat to one of the most beautiful natural beaches in the world: Bahía de las Águilas, in the Jaragua National Park. The bay is about 8 kilometers long and offers an extraordinary coastal landscape with crystal clear water that melts with the sky on the horizon. After a walk through the mountains, we will leave the vehicle parked and take our bikes. The goal is the observation point "Hoyo de Pelempito" at an altitude of 1,300 m.
